I’m back. Really. The last time an article or update appeared on Jumpseatnews was this one on November 25, 2019. But this new Jumpseatnews feature is so important that I switched everything here back on, and well, here goes...
I built a new and special Retirement Center for all United Flight Attendants. It was a lot of work, but it's the most advanced resource I've ever added to this website. And you deserve it. Anyone retiring from United Airlines deserves the very best: the most helpful "home base" to get your questions answered, with all the mumbo jumbo about insurance, 401(k)s, pensions and all that other boring but important stuff explained in plain English. Oh, and there are some helpful calculators and a complete step-by-step guide to walk you through the process. It's based on the new 2026 CBA, the old Joint CBA, and a lot of other information and published guides. I also included a very helpful retirement seminar video from the best and most knowledgeable flight attendants in the entire airline. They are the most helpful resource you'll ever find. I can't operate heavy machinery when I'm thinking about this stuff. But it's important, so we all need to learn about it.
No, I'm not planning on retiring now. Screw that. My plan has always been to retire at 65. But in all my years at United, I've had so much respect for our experienced and senior Flight Attendants. They were like family to me. Now that I'm (well, somewhat) older, I'm realizing that they (and someday I) need a place that really helps them navigate this whole process. Whatever your situation, there's something in the Retirement Resource Center to help you. Go check it out and you'll see what I mean. And feel free to share it with a fellow flying partner.
While this is a brand-new and large addition to Jumpseatnews, many of the other sections are either closed or partially shut down: the Crew Lounge, the Unimatic Help Center, and on and on and on. There are lots of broken links and missing pages. A few years ago, I had a database crash that lost over half the articles on this site. I recovered some of them, but many were lost forever.
One note: this is not "official" information. I am not a lawyer (thank God), nor am I a financial advisor. This is not legal, tax, insurance or financial advice, and it is a personal project, not an official publication of, or endorsed by, United Airlines or AFA-CWA. Remember, I'm just the guy who made the Screw-O-Meter and Hotel Flight Attendant.
Nevertheless, Jumpseatnews is STILL HERE. I'm STILL HERE. And who knows, this could be either the final article or the first of many more. And yes, I still miss Bailey. :-(
It’s good to connect with you again.
